Beat The Drum is back, 'Before The Fall' their first single of 2024, the music playing host to an observational commentary on the ever-growing presence of technology. It asks questions about danger in the pursuit of progress, a heavy topic, but makes it palatable and infectious, the slightly eerie and futuristic metallic whines of electronics coming into contact with punchy brass and groovy guitar riffs.
The chorus, filled with singalong vocal performances, is momentous and climactic, each section rising to a cinematic status, before letting go for the constant arpeggiated movement to become central once again.
The band shares, “We wrote ‘Before The Fall’ about this period as AI develops beyond our technological age into the information age. The period in which technological advances define social, economic and political life. As we start to know less and leave the thinking to machines we become just dumb monkeys without the fun.”
Currently, the project of writers and producers Chris Calloway and Steve Murrell, created from the London headquarters, Beat The Drum was originally a five-piece band in the late eighties West London club scene, they received critical acclaim for their vinyl singles and albums.
Performing under various names, including Crasherama since the group disbanded, they reunited as Beat The Drum in 2016. They’ve since released numerous tracks, maintaining independence and making their own rules.
