Birmingham one-to-watch Genevieve Miles shines on 'Storm Before'

Dubbed the "sunny indie queen" by BBC Introducing, the newcomer Genevieve Miles is keeping it meteorological with her latest single 'Storm Before'. This glistening indie gem floats with the effervescent quality of a heart in the healing process.

“This song is a special one, it really sounds like my soul. First off, it’s a love song, but looking back at it now I’m also talking about the long cyclical process of healing. “This rain could not compare to the storm that came before last summer”: healing and growth never end and when pain randomly comes up again, even though it’s hard each time, maybe it’s a little different, a little better than the time before, cause you’ve learnt so much since then, you have so many new tools to work with and look after yourself.”

There's certain sadness to the aerial tones of Miles' voice, but the upbeat instrumentation suggest a growing hope. 'Storm Before' also belongs to the pantheon of Gen Z alt-jazz storytelling like that we've heard from Arlo Parks and Jaunt. There's a youthful buoyancy and refreshing honesty that young listeners (and those young at heart) are able to instantly connect to, which is probably why this track was a instant love for us.
