‘Diamonds’ was an attempt by Toronto-based singer-songwriter POESY to connect with her audience and make them feel safe and understood by sharing and embracing her own vulnerability with them. Written at a difficult time in her life POESY’s latest single was a hit with fans and even made its way into some notable music publications including Earmilk, Indie Music Centre and Conversations About Her.
Now, with the release of the official music video for ‘Diamonds’, POESY hopes to double-down on her message and impress fans with the stunningly detailed visual element to the story. Here, POESY sheds some light on the meaning behind the video.
“‘Diamonds’ is at its core, a song about experiencing a dark time and trying to drag yourself through to the other side. It’s about the pressure you put on yourself that leaves you with dark inner turmoil. I’ve dragged myself out of that countless times so I hope ‘Diamonds’ can do that for someone else. I called it Diamonds because they’re a substance that is made under huge amounts of pressure, but they’re also so valuable - just like we are. So be gentle with yourself...”

‘Diamonds’ features soft, whispery vocals at the start alongside a simple drum beat and repeating guitar chords which build gradually in volume and tempo before breaking out into the big, bold and belting chorus POESY is so well known for. The resulting sound is a rich yet dark, mystical and enchanting, much like the music video itself.
The visuals are equally mysterious and eerie, showing POESY as an evil forest-dwelling demon that haunts her every move, ‘her’ also being POESY. She plays two opposing characters in the one-woman film, personifying the “dark inner turmoil” she describes whilst also acting as the “light on the other side” trying so hard not to be consumed by the darkness. POESY’s spellbinding vocals pair wonderfully with the magical and mysterious visuals, all gloriously encompassed in dark, mysterious and alluring melodies, ‘Diamonds’ is the intense, raw, and glistening pop-rock anthem we have all been waiting for.
