Making waves across the Irish live scene with sold-out performances at The Academy and The Button Factory already under their belts, Northside Dublin alt four-piece Empathy are bursting onto streaming services with the release of their debut single ‘Jeffrey’.
Their story started in 2017 with frontman Dean Nolan and drummer Adam McCarthy needing an outlet for their creative works. Completing the line-up not long after, the band has been working hard writing and gigging to start releasing recorded material.
Bursting out the speakers with a dark, grunge-tinged riff, the band wastes no time in cutting deep grooves and cathartic melodies to forge a distinctive riotous sound. The powerful instrumentation bleeds through the soundwaves, leaving the emphatic vocal to lead with its dark, twisted poetry.
Speaking about the release, the band explains, “Jeffrey is an interpretation of the internal struggles and moral wranglings of one of the most well-known serial killers of the 20th century. We wrote the song to investigate Dahmer's descent from ideation to reasoning; and eventually to his indulgent actions, and relishing in his vile nature.”
