Returning to the limelight, Go Hawaii release their latest single ‘Auburn’. Making their mark on bedroom pop, the group make an emphatic stomp with their latest post-punk soundscape.
Coming up strong, the single sports a new-wave glow with an almost shoegaze-y aftertaste. The layering of guitars makes way for a mesmerising backbone for the single to build from, made all the better by the group's foreboding, post-punk-tinged lyrics. There's a certain nostalgic quality to the recording, giving it a warm aura which is nonetheless exciting. Go Hawaii’s command of technologies from yesteryear and today cement them as a boundary-pushing creative force.
Speaking about the single, the group divulge, “We wanted to push ourselves creatively with this song, experimenting with a new approach to writing. We drew inspiration from the 90s Shoegaze sound and the raw energy of post-punk from that era. This time, we focused on diving deeper into the emotions, especially in the chorus, trying to convey a more intense feeling. The song is about a dull moment in my life, and I really wanted the lyrics and style to reflect that experience. I’m very happy with how it turned out, as it feels like both the sound and the words are deeply connected to that emotional state. The result was a completely different style than anything we’ve done before, and it felt like an exciting new direction for us.”
