Drawing on the success of last year's debut single 'How Many Times', which earned heavy rotation on DJ Target’s BBC R1Xtra show, Jaymie Deville has returned this year with an arsenal of R&B-pop grenades.
So far in 2020, the Melbourne-hailing, Dubai-based singer has fired off the EP 'True Love' and two highly-praised singles, 'For The Money' and 'Rendezvous', and shows no signs of slowing down. These tracks have flirted with various styles of R&B, laying down the foundations for Jaymie’s most accomplished sound yet.
Brand new single 'Nowhere Fast' pulls away from the trap-infused R&B of previous single 'Rendezvous' and arrives at an atmospheric R&B noir, inspired by the likes of Jamie Woon, Frank Ocean and The Weeknd. On “Nowhere Fast”, producer Rayan Bailouni creates a slick backdrop of propulsive beats and cushioned synths on which Jaymie’s feather-light falsetto illustrates a dysfunctional relationship. If The Weeknd soundtracked the film Drive, it might have sounded something like “Nowhere Fast”.
Speaking of the track, Jaymie says: “The track is about the realisation that there's nothing left in it anymore. It's a moment that is hopeful but mortal. It's about moving forward with a high spirit.”
Alongside the success of his singles, the 27-year-old has also made waves on the live scene at home and abroad, racking up around 300 shows annually and earning nominations for “Best Bar Act” at the Time Out Dubai Music & Nightlife Awards 2019-20 and “Best Act” in 2020 for What’s On Dubai.
