Dutch alternative duo Scarlet Mill, are teasing the release of their second album. After the release of ‘Chronicles’ in 2020, members Erik Verhoef and Jennifer Moesker were ready to take on another challenge showcasing their masterful penchant for storytelling.
Their latest single ‘Driftwood’ continues to unravel the tale of a travelling sailor and his enigmatic muse, detailing the saga of the pair's compelling love. The single creates a cryptic and ambiguous soundscape, contrasting bright and dark instrumentation. The hazy alt-rock atmosphere leaves plenty of room for the story to be told, engaging listeners with bewitching vulnerability across the captivating soundscape.
The duo shared, "We have crafted this song to unfold a pivotal part of the tale of two ‘drifting souls’, to be told in full on our upcoming second album. We voice the female protagonist’s perspective on the sailor’s misbehaviour before he flees to Port Henry. Our dark synths and gloomy guitars lay the ominous, alt-rock, and somewhat wavy foundations for the female narration."
