ThisMinority drops skilful new single ‘Let Me Have This’

Brooklyn-based and originally hailing from New Orleans, ThisMinority has absorbed the sounds of a wide range of artists and injects them into his music, straddling hip-hop with an expanse of other genres. His musical journey started through other creative outlets, dance and poetry eventually progressed into rap and exploring his sound in the studio. His career has seen him lean into his creative visions, leading to visuals for his debut project being showcased at the Hip-Hop Film Festival in Harlem, NY. Next up for the artist comes live events across New York and New Orleans, allowing him to expand his audience along the way.

The latest track from ThisMinority is new single ‘Let Me Have This.’ The beat is from acclaimed producer FreshiSui that fuses elements of trap and hip-hop to balance laid back and energetic and pairing it with an airy vocal sample and spacey lead synth. ThisMinority showcases his vocal talents on this track, using unpredictable flows and carefully selecting where he wants to annunciate each word in his writing and where it feels better to slur the words a bit and sit back into the beat. The artist shows his influences on this track, with sections that sound like Baby Keem or Kendrick Lamar to sections that are more akin to Kid Cudi. ThisMinority builds on these to create his own distinct style and flow, something that is really exciting to see.

On the new release, the artist shares, “What inspired this track was me getting some alone time. Time to myself to create music, do some self-building, or just relax on my own terms. My wife had just left the house and I was listening to the beat Freshisui sent and then it started to come to me, ‘Let Me Have This.’ Most of us just need some space but sometimes feel obligated to let people into our space. Some people feel like you owe them your space. This track is to claim your space and let them know that if they do come, come in peace. No drama, only good vibes. Don’t unload your bad day on me, just give me good vibes. Come in peace in this moment where I’m trying to find peace or build on it. ‘Let Me Have This’ is a reminder to take time to yourself, the time you deserve, and give distance to those who don’t respect it or don’t come in peace. Catch up with them later because putting time aside for yourself is important.”
