Watch & listen to Calista Kazuko's unique alt-pop ode to motherhood

Calista Kazuko's new video and single "Panda" is a beautiful ode to mothers and women through the generations of her family, as well as her Japanese heritage. The video for this alternative pop treasure capture the playful and loving dynamic between Calista and her mother who she credits through the song in lyrics like"learning to climb was easy, because I learned to climb on you." Between the breathy "panda/mama" interludes, the artist's soulful voice simply soars over the impressively intricate drum rhythm and vivacious piano. There's a lovely sense of movement to the track, with the instrumentation rising and falling, as though "Panda" is a tactile and living thing all of its own. As with life, this song forges its own path ahead and as a result it's a truly unique pop offering.

“‘Panda’ is a celebration of Motherhood. A thank you to my own fabulous Mama and a thank you to the magical little Bean growing in my tummy. Now, having taken a few months dedicated to milk-stained maternal bliss, I’m so excited to share this very special song and video to celebrate Mother’s Day 2022.

My beautiful baby girl is named after her Great-great-grandmother if you go straight up the female line on my Japanese side. The super loveable, super-kawaii panda is deeply loved in our family, in fact my Granny had a whole room devoted to them!

It’s true what they say… becoming a Mother really does make you feel invincible, it’s the greatest gift I could have ever asked for!”
